The Savannah Theater

The historic Savannah Theater is the oldest one of its kind still operating on its original site in the USA. Restored in 2002, the Savannah Theater combines the 1940's Art Deco Style with a state-of-the-art light and sound system, producing a variety of shows throughout the year.

The Savannah Theater opened its doors for the first time on December 4th, 1818 with a production of the comedy "Soldiers Daughter" and the farce "Raising the Wind." The original structure was designed by renowned architect William Jay. Among Jay's other celebrated works is the Telfair mansion, built for Alexander Telfair in 1819.

Over the past two centuries, the theater has undergone several face-lifts as a result of damage from fires. During the mid-20th century, the theater was converted into a motion picture house, and remained as such until the late 1970's when it was sold to the Little Theater of Savannah.

Some of the many illustrious stars to perform at the Savannah Theater include Fanny Davenport, E.H. Sothern, Julia Marlowe, Otis Skinner, Henry Irving, Tyrone Power, Ellen Terry, Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt, Lillian Russel, W.C. Fields and Edwin Booth.

Flanked by a picturesque square, the theater is within walking distance of a variety of delightful eateries and hotels.

Hotel pickup is NOT included. Child price is for ages 17 and under. Please order online or call 888-653-6045 to order or for more information.
