If you want to ensure that you have completed the Savannah mystic circle and haven't left any loose ends, then you're pretty much required by divine touring law to go to Bonaventure Cemetery!

This tour will provide all its visual, historical and botanical splendors. Described as "incomparable" by Oscar Wilde, Bonaventure is 10 to 15 minutes from downtown Savannah, located on a bluff overlooking the St. Augustine Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway. The scenery may well steal your breath away.

Buried here are a colony founder or two like Noble Jones, former Governor and U.S. Senator Josiah Tattnall, T. S. Eliot's best friend Conrad Aiken, famed songwriter Johnny Mercer, and the famous "Little Gracie," too.

This tour was featured by Samantha Brown on the Travel Channel in an episode titled "Samantha Faces Her Fears" (and Samantha LOVED it).

There is a $5.95 USD processing fee per order. This is a flat fee regardless of the number of tickets or tours purchased on an order.
There is a service charge per ticket. This charge will be reflected on your summary before you checkout. The total shown includes any and all taxes, fuel surcharges, and service fees. There are no additional charges, unless otherwise specified.

Cancellation Policy:

There are no refunds. All sales are final.

Change Fee Policy: If changes are allowed on a tour or activity, a $20.00 per reservation change fee will be applied for any change to a reservation. Please note that some tours and activities do not allow any changes. Date changes can be made only if we can confirm availability on the new date. While we cannot guarantee any changes can be made, all change requests must be submitted a minimum of 24 hours prior to the tour departure and must be handled on an individual basis through our Reservations Center.

Strangely, the City of Savannah policies forbid the telling of ghost stories in cemeteries. But, you will be told about the 40 people who have committed suicide in Bonaventure and why there's an incentive plan for those who do!

There's also a great yarn about a caretaker's wife who murdered her husband in the caretaker's house in 1910.

Your guide may throw in a ghost story or two outside the cemetery entrance, too.

You are permitted to remain in the cemetery following your guided tour to tour more on your own or take additional photographs - up until the cemetery closing time.

VERY IMPORTANT

This is an active cemetery. Please respect it as such and thank you for your cooperation. The City of Savannah maintains this property and the offices of the cemetery director and staff are located within the caretaker house on the site. Although they are guardians of the place, they are not responsible to tour guest needs or questions - so please keep that in mind. If you have special questions or needs, please ask your tour guide. Specifically, the following rules apply to this tour:

  • Please use the restroom before your tour
  • No loud noises, music or conversation
  • No climbing trees and no sitting on burial sites
  • Touching statues is forbidden
  • No moving or removing of items within the plots
  • Bring water with you, as none is available on-site
  • Cemetery closes at 5:30 pm sharp

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Specific tour content and route is determined by each tour guide on the day of the tour
  • Dress appropriately for the weather; tours operate rain or shine and only are postponed in the case of weather that will, in the opinion of the tour guide, cause a dramatic interference or substantial danger to guests
  • This is a walking tour, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes
  • Cell phones must be turned off prior to the start of the tour
  • This is a NON-SMOKING TOUR
  • ACCESSIBILITY: These tours are performed on the streets, sidewalks and pathways of Bonaventure; disabled guests are welcome to participate, but no transportation is provided to the tour departure location and no special equipment is provided to accommodate
  • It is recommended you not drink alcohol before this tour, as it could impede your ability to complete the walking tour
