Gullah Geechee Mini-Bus Tour in Savannah

Gullah Geechee Mini-Bus Tour in Savannah

The origins of Black History begins with the Gullah Geechee people's culture and history in Savannah. This tour will take you on a local journey of historic communities and sites and detail the rich history and culture of the Gullah Geechee people in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and North Carolina.

Get a taste of Lowcountry living as you learn about how the Gullah Geechee people adapted to the sea island areas of Georgia and South Carolina after they were brought here as slaves from West Africa.

Once slavery was abolished, the Gullah Geechee people remained confined to the sea islands. They are known for preserving most of their African linguistic and cultural heritage, more so than any other community of black people in the United States.

Their language is a mixture of English-based Creole language with African grammar and sentence structure. Gullah Geechee people are highly spiritual and exhibit strong West African cultural tendencies with their storytelling, food preparation, music, beliefs, arts and farming techniques.
